THE PRECIOUS

A page dedicated to the pieces of our collection that arrive in your homes after a long process.
The terracotta after suffering the first firing at 1000 ° becomes "cookie" (name of jargon ceramic) acquiring and porosity. It is ready to receive a thin layer of vitreous enamel (paint to glass, comprising lead oxide and silica sand) and then subjecting it to a further firing at a temperature slightly lower than the first 800-900 degrees.
Completed these stages of processing, comes into play the creativity of Maria Palumbo. Use a particular color and difficult to apply on the glassy surface of the ceramic. This color called "Shine" provides a special decorative technique, which allows to obtain various shades of gold or ruby, amber or platinum, etc. At this point the article undergoes a third firing (called "low fire") that ranges from 600 ° to 800 °, able to soften the crystalline or earthenware below and to penetrate the color applied, fusing with the glass substrate, giving the majolica iridescent shades or iridescent, also makes the piece lasting and wear resistant, and embellished in the beauty and value.
This technique Maria Palumbo also apply in the panels of furniture, which can be used for floors and walls.
Curiosity: this procedure is particularly sophisticated, and was acquired by the manufacture of ceramics, in the second half of the fifteenth century, almost certainly through the mediation of decades Hispano-Moorish from Spain through the intermediate port of Mallorca, which became known as majolica .
