Maria Palumbo: The birth of an artist

This fantastic journey begins in elementary school, when Maria receives a gift from his father a box of crayons.
With the enthusiasm of a child, discards the packet and finds himself in the hands pencils shiny colored sparkling, that resemble the wings of butterflies in search of flowers.
In that moment in her feelings overlap, it is submerged: excitement for the gift received and euphoria. Euphoria because he feels that his, still immature, fantasy can have fun; a new world is opening up for Mary. Will be projected on the sheets, images and motifs conceived in his mind and mold them with colors. This will spur the drawing. In fact he spent whole afternoons at the desk: track patterns and subjects arising from the imagination and the world around them; estranged from games and dolls, pastimes typical of early age.
The years pass and Maria attended the art school, discovers the great Italian painters, he studied the paintings trying to snatch the essence. One author in particular fascinates most, Fra Angelico. Approaches also Egyptian art: its hieroglyphs, with their ideographic script, remind the arabesques that drew as a child. Maria is inspired by his experiences of study, finding a greater motivation to further his artistic talent, and goes into the ceramic painting.
Just eighteen, began selling his sketches decorative to a famous producer of flooring tiles, Vietri sul Mare (Sa); here she was noticed by a Master Ceramist that aims to decorate at his workshop.
In years of working experience, Maria recognizes that to which aspires his artistic temperament: "perfection and beauty."
According to her, an artistic expression is not such if it is not perfect and if it radiates beauty, arousing emotions in the eye of the beholder, so giving away a part of the soul of the artist that produced it.
Very young and animated by a will stubborn, with a spirit of sacrifice extraordinary, decided to start their own business. The realization of this dream, lead to removal from his family and from the city where she was born. He moved into the plains in Puglia. Opened a workshop and a shop, where he created furnishings majolica, impressed of his drawings, arabesques and colors. Works perfect in which Maria is able to combine, in a masterly way, the influence of his classical education with the needs of our time.
Return those same colors as a child lavished the vision of a perfect universe, beautiful, harmonious.
Mary continues to tap into that universe, with the same childlike spirit, but with the experience gained over the years, tempered by a continuous work of introspection and search for new forms and subjects.
His creations are called "visual poems"; appreciated and admired, they decorate so many houses which give luster with their exquisite refinement.
"According to Maria, every creation preserves the soul of a child, which in that day magic has captured the colors and painted his universe."
Alessandro Lemucchi (Writer)
